The English Lake District
And Grasmere Village
![]() The English lakes hotels are varied but the Moss Grove established in the1890's is one of the oldest of Grasmere Hotels and the Wood family have run it since 1969. All the self catering properties are typical cumbrian cottages all in Wordsworth's Grasmere in the heart of the lakes. The Vale of Grasmere in which the village of Grasmere is situated, is one of the most charming in the English Lake District, in Cumbria, which is made up of the old counties of Cumberland and Westmorland and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire. ![]() The village (nestling by the Lake, with it's charming island, which can be reached by a hired rowing boat) was home to the Poet, William Wordsworth, his wife Mary and his sister Dorothy Wordsworth at Dove Cottage, where he was visited by Many of his contemporaries such as Coleridge, De Quincey etc. Nowadays it is a popular place for vacations and a walkers paradise with romantic mountains nearby, like Helvellyn and its famous ridges, Striding Edge and Swirral Edge or mountain biking, horse riding and water skiing on Lake Windermere. Around about are many historic houses, castles and National Trust properties. |
